10 Day Flying Safari - Lake Naivasha, Rift Valley/ Maasai Mara/ Watumu, Indian Ocean

Day 1 Chui Lodge, Lake Naivasha, Rift Valley

The scheduled SafariLink flight departing from Wilson Airport at 1500 takes you to Lake Naivasha and Chui Lodge in the Great Rift Valley. The lodge is situated in the heart of the private and exclusive 20,000 acre Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary where 8 individual cottages overlook a busy waterhole with the Mau Escarpment as a backdrop.

The Sanctuary hosts over 45 species of mammals including several non-indigenous species that were imported in order to contribute to the survival of the species. Included in these are endangered species such as White Rhino, Grevy's Zebra, Besia Oryx & the infrequent sighting of African Wild Dog. Other animals include Cheetah, Buffalo, Giraffe, Wildebeest, and a large number of Leopard and Aardvark.

Day 2 Chui Lodge

Activities at Chui include both night and day game drives in the Oserian Sanctuary, boat trips on Lake Naivasha, fishing, explore the saline shore front on Oloidien Bay and witness hundreds of flamingos and cormorants with pods of hippo in the Lake. Lake Naivasha is a birdwatchers fantasy. There are over 450 species in the immediate area including the highland escarpments, which surround the lake to the south and west. From October to March Palaearctic migrants generously supplement the resident bird population.

Day 3 Serian Camp, Maasai Mara

After lunch the 1520 SafariLink scheduled flight departs for the vast savannahs of the world famous Maasai Mara. This is part of the Serengeti ecosystem and is famous for its migratory herds of wildebeest, large concentrations of predators, elephants and diversity of large mammal species. There you will be met at the airstrip and after an inaugural game drive, arrive at Serian Luxury Tented Camp.

Run by one of Africa's most professional guides and naturalists, Alex Walker, this camp combines both the traditional safari with uncompromised luxury. The tents have en-suite bathrooms, hot/cold running water and cedar decks overlook the swirling Mara River immediately below camp.

Day 4 Serian Camp

Awoken gently at dawn with piping hot tea, coffee or hot chocolate guests can take a game drive in search of the Mara's fabulous animals. Lion prides finishing their previous nights feast or furtive ‘hard to find' Leopards can be seen very close to camp. A picnic lunch may often be taken out, allowing guests to spend a full day in the bush before returning back to this luxurious camp for well earned sundowners on the verandah.

Dinner by candlelight is taken in the stylish designed dining room featuring a natural stone fire place, elegantly placed sofas and chairs under a permanent thatched roof.Hand carved baths made from local stone with running hot/cold water allow guests to soak away the day's dust in privacy yet within view of the river itself below.

Day 5 Serian Camp

Another early morning start may begin with a walk escorted by an armed guide. There one can appreciate the ‘Little Five' and notice all the unique savannah flora and fauna at close quarters. Guests may find time to seek out the local Maasai customs and traditions which highlight their age old, nomadic, pastoral existence. Breakfast is often taken in the bush away from camp and late morning allows one to explore the riverbanks for Hippos, Crocodiles and resting large cats shading themselves from the midday sun. Taking an afternoon siesta may be in order followed by an evening game drive exploring another less visited corner of this expansive wilderness.

Day 6 Hemingway's, Watamu

Depart from the Mara on the 1100 scheduled SafariLink flight to Wilson Airport arriving at approx 1215. You will be met by a vehicle which will take you on to the famous Carnivore Restaurant for lunch. The restaurant has beautiful gardens, a bar, relaxing lounge areas and an arts & crafts gallery which will keep you busy until your transfer back to Wilson Airport for the 1715hrs scheduled Air Kenya flight to Malindi for your stay at Hemingway's.

A transfer bus will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the resort. Hemingway's overlooks the stunning beach of Watamu Marine Park and the ambience of the hotel is of relaxed sophistication, with the friendliness of a privately owned hotel coupled with the facilities and standards of an international resort.

Day 7 Hemingway's

Three miles down the coast from Hemingway's is Mida, a tidal lagoon of mangrove creeks teeming with exotic bird-life and the venue for sundowner cruises on an Arabic dhow. The Kenyan coast is renowned for its fishing. The resort offers half or full day fishing trips. In season you can reel in Sailfish & Marlin and feisty Tuna. Also out to see is the option to go dolphin watching, snorkeling over the coral reefs and diving.

Day 8 Hemingway's

When not out to sea, there is plenty to do at the coast; you could try your hand at wind-surfing, take a trip to the snake park or the Gede Ruins which is the remains of a 13th century Swahili settlement that was inexplicably abandoned in the 17th century. With its two swimming pools and great cocktail bars, you could spend the day simply relaxing by the pool with a good book and cool drink at hand. The hotel also has a gymnasium and tennis and squash courts located on the resorts property.

Day 9 Hemingway's

A trip can be taken to the Arabuko-Sokoke forest, which is one of the last remaining stands of virgin coastal rain-forest. It contains a number of rare and unique species, including the Sokoke Scops owl. Ancient elephant tracks criss-cross the forest, whilst on the forest floor you might glimpse a Golden-rumped elephant shrew and higher up brilliantly-coloured butterflies teem in the clearings.

Day 10 Departure

The Hemingway's transfer bus will take you to Malindi Airport for your scheduled Air Kenya flight departing at 1900, arriving at 2030 in Wilson, Nairobi. A transfer vehicle will meet you at the airport and take you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your outward bound flight or for an overnight stay in Nairobi depending on flight details.
